The Final Finish

By creating a professional website, students can show their future employers their past work, and why they would be qualified for a job. The website is like a visual resume, showing links to actual blog posts, photographs, and recorded content. After graduating from college, students can have their website address in their resume, so when they apply for a job, employers can pull it up to see actual content from the students. The website is for professional use only, which will show a professional, appropriate photo of yourself, and it will link to professional social media accounts. Employers who would want to see what the students are like and get to know their character in a way can use the websites. For an example, a student who is into creating their own graphics can post their own images onto the site for the public to see their work. Another example is having a journalism student posting their news stories onto their site, for future employers to look at. The website can also make a good image for yourself if its professional and clean.
Creating a professional Twitter is very important and also helpful to have for own self. On a professional Twitter account, you should follow interesting accounts such as organizations, people and businesses. You should follow people you wouldn’t normally follow because you are then opening up your horizons and learning more about different views and aspects. You can reach out to organizations and people to either place your opinion or give a fact or question. It’s important to have your social media accounts linked to your website to show future employers you are active on social media and understand it. Today in the job field, especially for journalism, it’s a plus to organizations if you know how to interact on social media because everyone uses social media. Employers can see what you tweet and write about day-to-day, to get to know how you act on social media and if your tweets are valuable to the public.

Designing a website is exciting yet challenging, but in the end, it is worth it for your future self. To set up a website, you have to launch it through Adobe Dreamweaver and build it from that software. From the beginning, it’s so important to organize all your web files folder and site folders separately to have a clear path to put on your site. The more organized your files are, the better. It can get confusing building your site and you have too many folders, or content is put in the wrong folders. It is also important to keep your website clean of any errors or flashy fonts and colors. You have to make your website stand out and unique for yourself, but to still keep it professional. It is challenging to use the software and to play around with the coding, but if you do it step by step and cautiously, your website can turn into a great success and will be useful for your future self.

Tweet Tweet

Twitter is a social media platform that gives anyone a chance to be heard. Most people these days have a Twitter and if they don’t, its usually rare. Every organization and every business has their own Twitter account. Why? So that they can advertise and reach out to people in different audiences. Twitter can function as a way for people to communicate and find new people to talk to, as well as talking with friends. Celebrities have Twitters to reach out to fans or to tell the world what they are up to. Businesses have Twitter accounts to get their name out there and to advertise. However, Twitter has been used beyond socializing and marketing. Twitter has become a platform in which people can protest and argue. In the article, “What’s fueling Mideast protests? It’s more than Twitter,” Twitter is being used as a way for people to get together and communicate for protests. Twitter has been used for people to fight for their opinions and gather more people to participate. However, in the article, it stated that its not just social media fueling the fire. It is stated that the roots of the problem in the Mideast are much deeper and have been the main problem in the countries for years.

Twitter can be useful as a journalistic, political and organizational tool and it has really been helpful especially to journalists who struggle for people to read the news. People these days spend less and less time reading the news or even watching the news. There are less people reading the newspaper, which is a huge problem for journalists. To get people who are on social media to read the news, journalists, news stations and news papers will tweet out headlines and top stories of that day to engage people to click on the link in the Tweet. Younger people are on Twitter, so it’s a great way to reach out to the younger generation through Twitter to give them some type of news they might be interested in. Also, when there is a breaking story, news reporters can tweet out breaking events on what is happening at the scene to keep people updated. Twitter being used as a political platform is a great thing and a not so great thing. Politicians can reach out to everyone who is on Twitter and to let people know who are following them, get to know them better. For example, the 2016 presidency candidates have their own Twitter accounts and people can see what kind of stuff they talk about and if you think they are worth your time to follow. It’s a way for people to see if they like the way the candidate reaches out or if they are turned off by the candidate and by the way they post tweets. Twitter can be used as an organizational tool by having companies and organizations tweet out and advertise about what they are all about. An example of a company having a Twitter would be Pepsi or the SPCA. They tweet out tweets advertising a new product or a new program they are doing. For the SPCA, the organization might tweet out stories of animals being rescued or just giving out information on donating. It’s a way for companies to get their name out there and to lure people in to buy their products and services or to get people to donate.

Back in November, when terrorists attacked Paris, France, Twitter was one of the main platforms people got updated information on. Every news organization was tweeting out what happened, where it was happening, how many got hurt and where are the terrorists. People could turn on the TV and watch the breaking news on there, but Twitter was a much faster way of finding out what happened. Every couple minutes, news stations and reporters were tweeting out how many are hurt and if the shooting was still going on. The reporters kept everyone updated on what exactly was happening. Twitter was a successful tool used during this event and was a way to ensure people of what was going on and how to be safe if you are in that area. Another event in which Twitter was used was when the Pope visited the United States. Journalists and news organizations were constantly tweeting out where he was currently and what he will be doing next. People were really interested in what the Pope was up to during his visit to America. There were pictures and videos posted on Twitter and it was a great way for people to see the Pope. Another event Twitter was used was when Caitlyn Jenner was announced and shown to the public. People went wild over Twitter stating their opinions, good and bad. It was an event that was blown out of proportion by Twitter because it wasn’t really a huge event. There were millions of tweets tweeted out about Jenner and there was a lot of confusing, and negative tweets on it. Although, it was all over Twitter and people were tweeting about it, it wasn’t really newsworthy and it shouldn’t have been all on Twitter negatively like it was.

On Twitter, three organizations and people who are followed by many are, The American Kennel Club, Canalside Buffalo and Joanna Gaines. All three of these Twitter accounts are constantly tweeting out interesting stories and pictures. The American Kennel Club posts a lot on how to keep your dog safe and happy stories about dogs. Canalside Buffalo tweets out current events that will be happening at Canalside and what to do there. Joanna Gaines flips houses for living and she sends out tweets on her own designs to inspire people who are possibly redecorating their house.

Twitter is much different from blogging because it happens more quickly than by posting a large article. By using Twitter, you only have 140 characters to say what you want say. People like to read things they can read fast, so Twitter is a way to get information fast. More people have a Twitter than a blog, so by using Twitter, people are looking more at what you Tweet than what your write in a blog. You can post links, photos and videos to a tweet, giving the reader more to look at.

IMovie Production Presents... Time!

The class was divided into groups to create self-portrait videos dealing with one word only. One group had to create a video together dealing with the word time. The group gathered together during class time and brainstormed some ideas of what represents time and how they can film it. After coming up with multiple ideas on time, the group went off and recorded their own videos on what they did during the whole day and to represent a clock in every shot. Some problems that were faced while shooting was that the group wasn’t together while shooting the videos, so it was all done individually. Another struggle of shooting the video was to make sure what you were filming deals with the word time. Also, you have to represent yourself in the video so the group had to make sure that they were being represented in each video. The class watches the video when completed they should know what person in the group is being identified during the video. Problems with editing the video could deal with transferring the video onto a flash drive from a phone, or editing the video onto iMovie. IMovie can be difficult with editing with, when you don’t have much knowledge of using it. A problem dealing with iMovie was to always remember to save the raw footage before you create it into other movies. When the groups had to do their individual movies, they cut their videos into whatever segments they wanted it to be. While creating a video as a group, you need those raw videos that weren’t edited to create for the group video. IMovie was a difficult experience for most because it was complex and hard to remember the certain tools to use on it. Some struggles some groups faced was that they had a lot of video content to choose from to go into their videos. It was difficult to edit and cut back on videos because there was a certain amount of time the video had to be at. Also, another struggle was that students had to shoot their own videos and come together and combined them. The struggle with that was to put together the videos in a way that made sense and not make it so random. Some groups had to create a way where the video doesn’t become repetitive or boring to watch. They had to come up with ways to capture and entertain the audience’s attention. The biggest struggle for all the groups was to make sure their theme was present for everyone to identify. It is important for the videos make sense and to demonstrate the main theme while being creative as well.

Using video as a communication tool is a better way to communicate than by communicating with writing or photographs. By using video, people can see what is actually happening and what sounds are present during that time. The viewers can get a real sense of the time and place of the video being shown, so that they can connect to it as well. Using video is also more intriguing to watch as a viewer and it keeps the audience on their toes of what’s going to happen next. It is a very effective communication tool, and it helps get the message across better than a picture or words. Also, when creating a video, you can add music or special effects to really empathize the message getting across. You can change the whole concept of the video by adding music and changing the filters. Another reason why videos are more effective is by being able to reduce speed or speed up the videos to feel an emotion. If the meaning of the video means crazy then the editors can speed up the time to fast motion so it relates to the main theme.

Sometimes the public nature of the videos can affect the subject matter in the videos, however the group representing time, the public nature did not affect the videos. In the group, the students had to record things that represented themselves and time. For most of the student’s videos in the group, they did not record much of the public and they mostly recorded things they were doing. For the videos, the mood was quite for most and there weren’t that many people in the videos disturbing the movie. Even if the video was affected by the public nature, the video had music play over it so cancel out any noise. The music of the video sets the tone of what kind of theme it is. Without music, the videos would not get the message across effectively.

In every movie, students had to incorporate their self portraits into the videos. That was challenging for most students because they had to be the ones recording as well. Another challenge was that the students needed to record their videos with themselves being portrayed in the video so the class knows what student is being represented in the videos. In every shot of the videos, the students had to represent themselves in some way, either literal or metaphorical and along with the word that was the main theme. It was challenging for most to do both tasks of a self portrait and representing the main theme. In some groups, the team mates would all meet together and be in a couple shots to represent that they are a group together, while covering the self portrait aspect.

There were no big issues with sharing the video on social media. It easy to transfer videos onto a desktop and to upload the video to Twitter or Facebook from there. I am sure a lot of students thought of this processes the easiest because everyone is so familiar with social media.
The overall experience with iMovie and the video project differed for everyone, but now, all students are able to use iMovie again for other courses or productions. All students have the knowledge to shoot, edit and post their own videos

My wikiHow Experience

Christina Stuart’s wikiHow experienced has been a wild ride for her, and it was definitely something she would want to do again. There were many ways she had to communicate for her wiki page, including her photos that were taken, references and information from another wiki. Along with her own personal experience, sharing information on the topics in class, managing the project, a step by step guide on instructions, and communicating with others about a topic.
When she first started her wikiHow page, it started off with a couple of thoughts and ideas. She came up three ideas for a wiki page that wasn’t up on the site yet. All three of the ideas she came up on her own from her own personal experiences. When she got to class to discuss the three ideas, her classmates and teacher gave back some feedback on how she can write a 600 word wiki page. They told her why they would be interested on clicking the page and how it does or doesn’t draw in attention. The classmates told her which idea they think is best and would get a lot of views. By communicating with the classmates about each of her topics, made it easier to decide which topic she would be choosing for her wikiHow page. She also gave feedback to other students on their wikiHow page ideas, and believes it made their decision easier to make by doing so.

When she finally picked out the topic for the wiki page, she had to double check if the idea wasn’t on wikiHow. The topic has to deal with essential oils, so of course there were remedies and recipes dealing with essential oils. But, she made the topic be very specific so that there wouldn’t be a page already on it. She looked up different headache treatments on wikiHow, and also looked up essential oils remedies. None had mentioned on how to cure headaches with an essential oil roller ball. She found ways to treat aches and pains with essential oils, so she thought she could come up with a way to cure headaches for people who are on the go. Here is a link of a wikiHow page on how to apply essential oils, which she used as one of my references for the page.
http://www.wikihow.com/Apply-Essential-Oils

The next step to communicate with her project was to manage it and to make a step by step progress. She had to figure out all of the steps that go into a wiki page such as, ingredients, directions, warnings and tips. She had to do research on where people could buy the ingredients for the roller ball remedy.

She had to come up with her own step by step directions. Instead of looking up directions online, she asked her sister because she knows a lot about essential oils. Christina had to communicate with her to figure out the exact amount of essential oils she needed to make for the roller ball. Her sister told Christina her way of doing this process, so she borrowed her sister’s ideas and came up with the rest on her own.

The next step to communicate with the wikiHow was to take photos of the steps to make the roller ball. She had to plan out what kind of pictures she should take that will match the description of the step. She wrote down all of the steps to make it easier for herself to create photographs for that step. She took clear and simple pictures of the product so people can understand and do on their own. To find out what kind of pictures she should be taking, she looked up several wiki pages on recipes to see how the pictures were taken and how many were on the page. Here is a wiki page that helped her on what kind of pictures to take.

The pictures were very important to communicate in my wiki page, because without them, people wouldn’t know what kind of roller ball to use for the product. With her pictures, people can fully understand what to do when they try it on their own. They can see how she puts the drops into the bottle and see what fractionated coconut oil looks like. With her pictures, people can get a good idea on where to apply the oil on the body. She has a picture of the mixture being applied to a forehead and the back of a neck. You can also see the actual size of the rollerball when she took a picture of it going into a purse.

To help maintain my project Christina had to edit her page on the advanced editing on wikiHow. She had to work on the advanced editing because it was easier to code the page that way. Sometimes, the wiki page wouldn’t save when she clicked on save, so she would lose her work often. A way to prevent her from starting all over again was to save her work on a separate word document. That way when all of my work didn’t save, she could open up the word document and copy and paste it back onto the wiki page. When she copied and pasted the wiki page onto my word document, she would also add in the coding so she knew where which codes go where on the page. However, when her page didn’t get saved, her pictures would be gone as well. Therefore she had to go back and upload all of her pictures back onto the page. For future reference, everyone who makes a wiki page should save all of their work on a separate word document because the wikiHow site isn’t very dependable on saving your work.

Christina has learned a lot about what goes into making a wiki page for this project and she knows a lot more about how important it is to always have a backup file in hand. She hopes her wiki page is well communicated to people who are looking at the page and hopes people can find it easy to follow along the guidelines.

The Timeline of the World Wide Web

The World Wide Web Is Like a Chameleon Changing Colors

The World Web started off as Web 1.0 and then into Web 2.0. Even though the Web changed from 1.0 to 2.0, there is a huge difference between the two. Web 2.0 is what we are using today and will continue to use it for a while. Web 2.0 is anything from looking something up on the internet, online shopping and social media. It allows me to look at my Facebook account and post a video on my friend’s wall. Web 2.0 allows people to easily contact and interact with each other, and maintain relationships from all over the world. Everyone gets to post about their opinion and look up whatever they desire. Web 3.0 is an updated Web 2.0 with a more advanced way of looking up data. Instead of trying to find, for example, “Boots” online in the Google Search engine, it will make you narrow the search by saying, tan colored low heel booties from wherever. When I look up results in Google, it gives me millions of pages to choose from, but with Web 3.0 my results are narrowed down to what I actually want to find. I do believe Web 2.0 has lived up to hype when it grew out of 1.0, because it has offered more opportunities for people to get their words out there. 2.0 has offered many people to create their own blogs such as this one. Freelance journalism became a thing because of 2.0 along with social media. People can now put out their own content for the whole world to see, and people can get instant feedback from others. I can comment on people's YouTube videos and voice my opinion. Of course it’s a way to bring other people down, have you seen YouTube comments on videos... yikes! 2.0 has networked people from all over together. Users on the internet can now connect and make relations with multiple people on the Web. Social media allows people to post about their own lives and comment on others. Ever wonder about the life of Miley Cyrus? Just follow her on Instagram and you can view, “like” and comment on her photos. It's so easy for people to gather information on 1.0 and 2.0, but in 2.0 people can give back information as well. On 1.0 people could only look at their screen and take in information only. With 2.0 people can interact with the internet and have their voices heard. I believe the change from 2.0 is a positive action because it allows more freedom to the people. It’s so easy to look up something you need to find on the internet and look up reviews on that product, or recipe. I think Web 3.0 is going to be a whole different ball game because of the advanced searching. It will allow us to skip over information we don't need which is good, but a lot of people’s content, if it’s broad won’t get searched or reviewed. Web 3.0 will do all the dirty work for us which will only make us even lazier! I think we have it so good with 2.0 and by advancing to 3.0 will only make us more impatient with instant information.
The Changing World Wide Web

The World Wide Web has changed into three different stages, Web 1.0, Web 2.0 and then into Web 3.0. All three stages are very much different from each other and have evolved so quickly. Web 1.0 is the first World Wide Web and it’s a way to look up and gather information. According to howstuffworks.com, Web 1.0 is static. It is stated that, "They contain information that might be useful, but there’s no reason for a visitor to return to the site later." A webpage in a 1.0 stays the same and it never changes, therefore it doesn't update at all. With Web 1.0, visitors can on visit the sites and can’t interact with them at all. Unlike the Web now, in Web 1.0, you could not click on links on websites that takes you to another site. The webpage was one website that you can only look at and not interact with. Web 2.0 is a giant step from Web 1.0 in which it functions with user’s involvement. Web 2.0 enables users to comment and interact with the Web such as commenting on a Wikipedia page, or sharing a tweet on Twitter. People come back to the same websites to interact, unlike websites in 1.0. People using Web 2.0 can share content with one another and can network with people from all over the world. According to Whatis.com, Web 2.0 allows people to voice their opinions. The article stated, "Websites that enable users to contribute, collaborate and edit site content. Wikipedia is one of the oldest and best-known wiki-based sites." Wikipedia is a page in which people can look up information and also add to that page of information. Social media is a big part to Web 2.0. It allows people to connect with one another though Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many more platforms. People can now meet on the internet and make relationships out of them. Web 2.0 is very interactive and it involves a lot of networking. Web 3.0 is a step up from 2.0 and is very much different from the other two versions of the Web. In Web 3.0, the search engines are more advanced in which instead of getting broad results, users will get specific results to what they are searching for. According to howstuffworks.com, web 3.0 will make results simpler and easier. The article says, "Instead of multiple searches, you might type a complex sentence or two in your Web 3.0 browser, and the Web will do the rest." When users look up certain information on their browser, the computer will remember what you looked up and will show you stuff that is similar to what you looked up. The browser will mention things, or places you would like and will act like your very own personal assistant.
All three Web versions are very much different, but they all are contributed into making the newest World Wide Web.
